Why is close, (the opposite of open), pronounced so that the “s” sounds like a “z”, and close (the opposite of far) is pronounced so that the “s” sounds like, well an “s”?
Why didnt they just spell one with a Z?

that’s why the english language is so difficult to learn. however good question, something to think about.
The English language is weird. Why do you call multiple goose “geese” but you don’t call multiple moose “meese”?
